13-75.1 POLICY:
Medical and dental prostheses and orthoses and other aids to impairment (e.g. eyeglasses, hearing
aids, crutches, wheelchairs, etc.) will be provided when the health of the patient inmate/resident would
otherwise be adversely affected, as determined by the responsible physician/dentist or other
appropriate qualified health care provider.
13-75.2 AUTHORITY:
CCA Company Policy
13-75.3 DEFINITIONS:
Orthoses – Specialized mechanical devices used to support or supplement weakened or abnormal
joints or limbs, such as braces, foot inserts, or hand splints.
Prostheses – Artificial devices to replace missing body parts such as limbs, teeth, eyes, or heart valves.
Qualified Health Care Professional (QHCP) – Includes physicians, physician assistants, nurse
practitioners, nurses, dentists, mental health professionals, and others who by virtue of their education,
credentials, and experience are permitted by law within the scope of their professional practice acts to
evaluate and care for patients.

1.

Upon authorization of prostheses, orthoses, or other aids to impairment, QHCP will
ensure the item(s) are issued to the appropriate patient inmate/resident within a
reasonable time frame.

2.

The 13-75A Prostheses, Orthoses, or Other Aid Impairments Receipt will be completed
and signed by the patient inmate/resident and issuing staff member. The original 1375A will be placed in the medical record and a copy provided to the patient
inmate/resident. When applicable, a copy of the 13-75A should also be sent to the
Property Officer for inclusion in the property file.

13-75.5 REVIEW:
The Chief Medical Officer or qualified designee will review this policy on an annual basis.

All CCA Facilities (Provided contractual requirements do not mandate otherwise)
