EXTERNAL EXAMINATION
The body, first viewed within a white plastic body bag, is that of a black male appearing bis
reported age of 33 years and clad in a blue, red and white geometric pattern hospital gown. Also
received loose within the body bag is a light green and white paper disposable under pad. No
jewelry is received with the body. The body is identified by New Orleans Forensic Center tags
present about the white body bag and the right wrist, each bearing the name "Damien Coesely,"
black lettering on top of the white body bag depicting the name of the deceased, a tan tag present
about the white body bag bearing the name of the deceased, a red tag present about the right
wrist bearing the name of the deceased, a white tag present about the right wrist bearing the
name of the deceased, and a tan tag present about the left great toe bearing the name of the
deceased. The body is 5' 2", 71 pounds, and cold to the touch due to prior refrigeration. The
body does not appear particularly wasted, but is very thin. There is moderate rigidity, and
posterior blanching lividity with contact sparing of the upper back and buttocks regions. The
hair is black, coarse, and averages I cm in length. There is a growth of hair in the beard,
mustache, and soul patch region, and there are remote tan-brown abrasions with eschar formation
that are scantly present on the anterior forehead and right lateral temple ranging from 0.2 to 1.5
cm with no other skin lesions on the head. The pupils are 4 mm, round. and equal. The sclerae
and corneas are slightly cloudy. The conjunctivae are tan-pink and congested ".\ith scant lower
bulbar and palpebral conjunctiva! petechiae, some of which are confluent. The irides are brov.n.
The ears and nose are unremarkable other than therapeutic intervention to be described
subsequently. The neck displays an anterior tracheostomy tube with sutures to the skin surfaces
and pinpoint superficial punctures on the left anterior neck, but has no other focal lesions; there
are no abrasions or furrows on the neck away from the superficial punctures; however, there is a
healing 4.0 x 0.6 cm superficial abrasion on the posterior right upper back (possibly from the
cervical collar). The chest is . symmetrical and the abdomen is flat with early greenish
discoloration of the abdomen, as seen with early postmortem changes. There is a 13.0 cm linear
vertical faint scar with what appear to be possible remote punctures on the anterior aspect of the
right foreann, and multiple healing punctures with eschar formation in the left antecubital fossa
and anterior left forearm. -Other than the previously described right upper back superficial
abrasion with eschar formation, the remainder of the back has no focal lesions other than tattoos
to be described subsequently. The buttocks are unremarkable other than therapeutic intervention
to be described subsequently. There are multiple tattoos as follows: the right deltoid depicts a
