that he called his mother around
7:30 pm and heard an inmate
yell "whoever doesn't participate
in this shit is next".
He said that some of the inmates
that live in Unit 3 were trapped in
the foyer and broke the door
down. He said that a "Tall white
guy" was trying to break into the
case managers office. He said
he would be willing to identify
this inmate through a photo
lineup.
Lopez stated that the Surenos
307 is doing whatever they want
at the facility and staft are

Washington inmate. Ciaims he Lt. Dan Foster
had band practice the evening of
the riot and \vent with fellow
! band member Brian Skinner.
States that a C/O was in the
band room until he heard LockDown over the intercom and left.
Said the four band members and
an inmate in the computer room
were in the band room until
about midnight when some
inmates busted them out
because they were going to
torch the woodshop. He said the
band members went to the
basketball court and layed down.
Stated that earlier in the day
while in the canteen line he
heard two inmates talking about
rioting that evening and that
anybody that didn't go to the

Inmate claims he was in the music room when everything went down. Says he was there with 4 or 5 other
inmates, and did not hear any announcements because the band was playing. Thought something was
wrong at about 8:30 or 9:0D P.I'Ii. when no one came to get them. Knew it was aher the usual count time.
Ala 11 :30 PJ"t, inmate claims he heard noises coming from the wDodshop, where some inmates came in
and were trying to set the lace on fire. The five inmates from the band room then left the area. -S- claims
there were issues with poor food quality and small portions. Arso cites ay discrepancies between
Washington, Colorado and Wyoming inmates as an issue. End of interview.

Inmate says he was in his own cell, not a participant in t1e disturbance of Oi-20-2004. He also claims there
are issues with staff Gmistreating' inmates, bad food with small portions made in a dirty kitchen. He also
says there is a lot of tension between inmates and staff, and issues like having to shower in front of female
staff and waiting 2 - 3 hrs. for a count to clear as the source of even more tension. End of interview.

Inmate ciaims to have beer in his celi trying to get away from the smoke of the fires. He claims the
treatment of inmates and disparity between inmates from the different states all as possible causes of the
disturbance of 07-20·2004. He also has issues with medi::al, and has heard rumors of a possible assault on

Inmate claims he was in the East yard when he observed a commotion in the West yard. He says he did
not actually see anything. Says he was cuffed up with fiex cuffs, and tha: poor food preparation, small food
portions andstafffinmate relations were all contributing factors to the disturbance. End of interview.

inmate GRIFFIN states he was in the lobby of Building 1 before (they) un\o:ked the doors. Claims he
couldn't get back into the buiidlng. He says he was sitting on the blea:hers by the baseball field, and
was nottnvolved. Says he l;stoDd out of the way" and kept inmates out of his room, Inmate GRIFFIN
also says he took his file and returned it to the Case lvlanager's office because he didn'1 want to bum
the file. He then went back to his room. He states that he cannot or will not identify the Surenos in the
pod. They are the ones who "did" inmate LUJP,N,

NOTE: Due to the inconsistencies and gaps in inmate GRIFFINS story, and by the fact he did take
possession of his file and by his own admission returned it to the Case Manager's office, ! beiieve
him to be more involved then he lets on. He has NOT been given a Miranda warning.
